Substance
Abuse Resources
Martha's Vineyard health care practitioners
offer a variety of out-patient substance abuse and addiction treatment
resources.
Out-patient
counseling helps in the following ways:
- helps people assess their use
of alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs,
nicotine, and caffeine,
and consider other potential addictive behaviors
like gambling, shopping,
computer use, sexual activity, and eating.
- helps people clarify whether
addictive behavior may also be connected to
some other difficulty
such as depression or bi-polar disorder, anxiety, a
history of trauma,
attentional difficulties like ADD, or learning disabilities.
- helps people set up and follow
a plan to change their behavior, feel
better about
themselves, and establish a recovery process.
The following providers have specific training and experience to help
with
these issues.
