Substance Abuse Resources


Martha's Vineyard health care practitioners offer a variety of out-patient substance abuse and addiction treatment resources.

     Out-patient counseling helps in the following ways:
       - helps people assess their use of alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs,
         nicotine, and caffeine, and consider other potential addictive behaviors
         like gambling, shopping, computer use, sexual activity, and eating.
       - helps people clarify whether addictive behavior may also be connected to
         some other difficulty such as depression or bi-polar disorder, anxiety, a
         history of trauma, attentional difficulties like ADD, or learning disabilities.
       - helps people set up and follow a plan to change their behavior, feel
          better about themselves, and establish a recovery process.

There are two types of options for out-patient detox.
- For out-patient detox for alcohol and illegal drugs, managed with medication, individual primary care physicians can be consulted.
- For acupuncture detox for alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs, nicotine and caffeine:
